Sarri: "Usually This Team Reacts After A Loss, Which Makes Us Optimistic, But This Loss Was Messy. I Feel Bad For The Fans Because They Care About The Game."
Maurizio Sarri made his comments after Lazio was beaten 3-0 by city rivals, Roma, at the Stadio Olimpico on Sunday night (20/03). The manager said the attitude of his players was too confusing.
Lazio won the first leg of the capital derby 3-2 earlier this season and are favorites in their second meeting with Roma. However, they suffered a 3-0 loss, with Roma in sixth place.
Maurizio Sarri's side has previously won five of their last eight Serie A games and has been given more rest, while Roma battle Vitesse in the Conference League on Thursday. However, they struggled to threaten Patricio's goal after conceding Tammy Abraham's ball in the first minute.
"Our approach was impeccable, we conceded and scored within half a minute, which gave us no energy to stay in the game. We were hit immediately and it cost us," Sarri said on DAZN.
"I feel bad for the fans because they care about the game and it's not good to lose like this."
"I think we let the anxiety get over us because we missed the pass, which normally doesn't happen. Our minds evaporated we had 90 minutes to get back on track but couldn't keep our composure to do it."
Can the Biancoceleste overcome this disappointing defeat, especially after being eliminated from the Europa League and Coppa Italia?
"Usually this team reacts after a loss, which makes us optimistic, but this loss was messy."
