Acerbi: "I Made The Wrong Move Tonight, Driven Purely By Adrenaline And Not Out Of A Lack Of Respect, I'm Sorry."
Defender Francesco Acerbi has posted a video of an apology addressed to Lazio fans following his controversial goal celebration against Genoa. The 33-year-old admitted his actions were disrespectful.
The Biancoceleste won 3-1 over Genoa in the Serie A continuation which took place on Friday (17/12) evening local time at the Stadio Olimpico. Apart from Pedro and Mattia Zaccagni, Francesco Acerbi became one of the goalscorers after welcoming Luis Alberto's corner with a header.
After the goal, he put his finger to his lips acting as if to silence the critics and also pointed to the ultras who were in the seats. As a result, his actions caused the anger of Biancoceleste supporters, so Acerbi uploaded a video message through his social media as quoted by Football-Italy.
"Hello everyone, I made the wrong move tonight, driven purely by adrenaline and not out of a lack of respect," read the defender's message.
"I'm sorry, but you know how much I love Lazio and also the fans, I send you a warm hug and always Forza Lazio. Good night."
The Biancoceleste managed to secure a perfect point in the match last Friday night local time and send their position up to eighth in the Serie A standings with a collection of 29 points from 18 matches played so far. Next, they will face Venezia before the winter break.
