November 03, 2021

Lazio is reportedly planning an awards ceremony dedicated to striker Ciro Immobile who has equalized the club's all-time leading goalscorer record.

As reported by Italian newspaper Corriere Dello Sport, 31-year-old Italian striker Ciro Immobile scored his 159th goal for Lazio in a 2-2 draw at Atalanta last Saturday, a goal which saw him equal Silvio Piola's record as the all-time top goalscorer for the Italian capital club.

Now the Biancoceleste are planning to hold an award ceremony at the Stadio Olimpico to celebrate the striker's achievements.

The ceremony is likely to take place on Sunday ahead of the match against Salernitana, a match that could take Immobile's tally to 160 goals for the club.  While the 31-year-old striker was also thinking of a celebration with his teammates as he did when he won the European Golden Boot when he gave a special jersey with a text message attached.

The former Torino striker also posted a message on his Instagram expressing his happiness after equaling Silvio Piola's record of 159 goals for The Aquile and he wants to break that record against Marseille or Salernitana this week.

"Thanks to everyone who has helped and everyone who helped me achieve this tally of goals, equaling the record of a legend like Piola is very exciting and inspiring for the future," reads the striker's message.

"Proud to be part of the history of a great team, it's a shame the result but as a captain, I'm proud of my team, good work guys."
