Sarri: "This Is A Team That Has Certain Characteristics And We Have To Use Them"
Maurizio Sarri explained the addition of tactics he did so that Lazio could perform well against Lokomotiv Moscow and proved successful after the Italian capital team beat the Russian representatives with a score of 2-0 in the match Thursday (30/09) evening local time.
Lazio could have grabbed an even bigger win against Lokomotiv Moscow than 2-0 through goals from Toma Basic and Patric as they missed several goalscoring opportunities and Pedro hit the crossbar.
It was a needed win after a 1-0 defeat away to Galatasaray but also added to Biancoceleste's confidence after the win in the derby della capitale last weekend.
"This is a team that has certain characteristics and we have to use them, they also do the things that we try in training," Sarri told Sky Sport Italia.
"Their technique has improved a lot in the last two games, we moved the ball faster so it looked better. Unfortunately, we only scored two goals, but I'm happy Basic and Patric contributed their goals."
"When you start a whole project, each team needs time to respond to what you ask. This is probably one of the most difficult teams for me because they are used to playing a completely different style of football."
One key tactic the 62-year-old coach has discovered with the Biancoceleste is to move Felipe Anderson to the right and Pedro down the left in a three-forward formation.
"Maybe I'm not very smart, so it took me some time to come up with this idea, they both prefer to play on the left, but watching them play and in training, I realized it would work," said the coach.
