Bobby Adekanye Injures Knee, Possible Surgery

August 08, 2021

Lazio striker Bobby Adekanye has reportedly suffered a knee injury and is likely to have surgery.  The player is not included in Maurizio Sarri's plans for next season and will be released by the Italian capital club this summer.

According to reports by Italian media LaLazioSiamoNoi on Saturday (07/08) local time, 22-year-old Dutch winger Bobby Adekanye did not participate in the training session in Marienfeld due to a meniscus injury to his knee which may require surgery to rehabilitate it.

If indeed the winger undergoes surgery, he will at least be sidelined for two months and will return to play in October at the earliest.  This situation presents problems for Biancoceleste as they hope to either release him on loan or sell him permanently this month.  His injury this time will cancel his transfer so he will stay in Rome.

While Adekanye's contract with Lazio expires next year in 2022 and now the Biancoceleste must evaluate what they should do, with a contract extension that would allow the player to be loaned back again in the winter market.

Meanwhile, for now, the 22-year-old will only focus on his health and wants the best solution that can get him back to playing as soon as possible.  He was signed from Liverpool in 2019 and has gone on two loan spells, first with La Liga side Cadiz who stopped midway through but made five appearances, and then went to Dutch side ADO Den Hag where he made 14 appearances and scored two goals.
