Some Lazio Players Refuse To Be Vaccinated

Lazio will reportedly give the vaccine to their squad on Saturday (24/07) local time but there are four or five players who refused the Covid vaccine injection.  Controversy continues to grow about Serie A players who are anti-vaccine and will not undergo the procedure.

Several Udinese, Spezia, and Empoli players have all confirmed they refuse to be vaccinated and there may be players from other clubs following suit and as reported by La Repubblica, the Biancoceleste have informed their squad that the vaccine will be given at Auronzo di Cadore this Saturday however four or five players turned it down.

The newspaper claims that coach Maurizio Sarri, president Claudio Lotito and the medical staff will try to speak privately with the players and convince them to accept the injection.

Previously the Premier League was preparing to make mandatory vaccines for professional footballers and Italian authorities will follow suit.  Empoli announced as of Friday local time there were six positive cases in their squad.

Meanwhile, as stated by a member of the FIGC medical commission, those who refuse vaccines will bear the moral and economic responsibility of paying if they cause an outbreak in their squad.

The new Serie A season will start on August 21 and there have been Covid clusters in Spezia and Empoli, Udinese, and others protesting that there are some anti-vaccine players in their squad.

"Most of the squad members are vaccinated at least the first dose and there are very few players who are not vaccinated," said FIGC health commission member Gianni Nanni.

"This is a big step compared to last year."
